I used to be quite the Tae Kwon Do artist back in the day. I competed at the state level and won that once. But people ask me if they should take TKD for self defense. The answer to that is a resounding NO! it is just not a practical or efficient way to defend yourself. It is more sport than a legitimate way to defend yourself.

I must disagree. After studying Taekwon Do for eighteen years, TKD is an effective form of self-defense. I do agree, however, that because some schools focus more on the sport than the martial art, they fail to instruct students properly in self-defense.
