Description
If you own a home somewhere it gets hot in the summer -- and, thanks to global warming, that "somewhere" gets bigger every year -- you owe it to yourself and your environment to replace your dark roof shingles with white or "cool" shingles (especially if it's time to replace the roof anyway). Dark shingles absorb heat, making the house hotter, requiring more air conditioning; white shingles reflect heat, dramatically reducing the need for AC. According to research at the Lawrence Berkeley Labs, in some areas the financial benefit of shifting to white shingles is better than that of installing solar panels!
