This bookshelf makes it look like your books are floating on air. I liked the look, but was suspicious that it might not be very usable... I bought one, tested it out, and now I have bought 4 more.

Those who know me, know my obsession with keeping computer cords and other unsightly wires out of site completely. I like that this same idea translates into a book shelf...focus on the inside - not the outside.

The shelf is a great topic when guests are over, and looks amazing on an empty wall. But I've noticed that it doesn't hold more than 4 hardcover books without beginning to bend a little south of horizontal. The manufacturer doesn't recommends a load of over 6kg, but I've only tried half as much and it does bend a bit... Still, I'd buy another couple of Concealers all over again - it's an attention grabber!

Got this on sale at the container store - haven't put it up yet, but I will now!

When I was in college, I went through a very serious phase in which I only wanted to own items of the barest necessity - bed, clothes, computer, pens, and textbooks. This left very little room for home decor, so I nailed my home repair tools to the wall in a stark cascade. In the same vein, this shelf allows those longing for the simple life to make minimal decorative use of their books. If only I had known about this back then. ($11.95 at Modern Motive)

I didn't "get" this bookshelf until I actually saw the video of it in action. There is actually a second, tiny ledge that holds the cover up so the illusion works.

Secure this small shelf onto any wall and then clip the other protruding end onto the bottom of any book. Then when stacked with other books you haven't read, will make the illusion that the books are floating.

We have one of these, but my only problem with it is that I have to install the thing. I think I would love it once I got it up on the wall. But I'm also trying to decide which books I would put up there... and which book I want semi-permanently attached to the wall like that. Okay. So I'm having trouble, obviously. Maybe I need a bookshelf that makes these decisions for you. Or maybe this just isn't the right bookshelf for the ambivalent.

I bought two of these to display all my acting biographies/Method books in my living room and find them to be an excellent conversation piece. They get the job done without distracting from the centerpiece. Who wants to stare at bookshelves? I just want people to be able to scan my favorites easily! Umbra always does it right.

Those geniuses at Umbra have perfected this idea. The books floating in the middle of the wall is creative and arty, and it saves me so much floorspace I will never ever have to consider getting rid of a book again!! Mwa-ha-ha-ha!!!!

Love the minimalistic appeal to this. I'm in the middle of redesigning and redecorating my whole place from ceilings to floors and I do have to admit that I'm a collector of books. I collect old, rare and antique books as well as, harder to find one-off older beatnik writers and very rare French erotica collections. I like to include them in my decorating but, I don't like the look of just a plain old bookshelf against a wall. It doesn't really do the hard work of my finds much justice. And if I can't find something that's supposed to serve a purpose as something else and make it into another then, I want something simplistic and clean and as gorgeous as this. Just perfect!

I have one of these guys. I put it in my bathroom for *ahem* visual athletics. If you put a large (but not heavy) hard back book on the bottom, you can stack magazines on top of the shelf. My husband really likes having reading material at his fingertips, and I like the way the shelf displays the books/magazines.

I've always been a huge fan of these hidden book shelves. A floating stack of books is so eye-catching, not to mention that books make the perfect colorful decoration by themselves
