Yeah, I'm pretty much obsessed with the idea of making awesomely creative things that people can't live without. The boyfriend found this site looking for a vendor that could make some of our more intricate design dreams come true. We met up with them at the Maker Faire this year, and they're not just shipping from New Zealand any more!! I think the guy said they have a US base in Pleasanton or something.
The long and short of it is this: design something you want to be laser cut, send it to the nice folks over at Ponoko, they'll do the work and ship a nice new object to you (or your customers). Neato.

This site allows you to buy custom made laser cut items as well as create your own! There are instructions you can download to help with your design. Choose from a large selection of materials...stainless steel, acrilic, bamboo etc.

It's finally here- rapid prototyping and laser cutting for the masses! You don't need to invest in expensive equipment to bring your creations to life- simply submit your designs to Ponoko, get a prototype, test, refine and bring it to market. You can buy and sell on their site as well. Jewelry, furniture, games-- the sky's the limit. *runs off to play*
