I do have to say that this album was the beginning of the end of my love for the Goo Goo Dolls. Still a very solid album, but it begins their turn towards the slow burn ballads. There's still plenty of aggressive songs with tons of energy behind them though. "Dizzy", "Bullet Proof", "Amigone" are all good, and even the slower songs like "Black Balloon" and "Broadway" are pretty kickin'. But it was the massive hit of "Iris" and "Slide" that made the band turn away from their garage rock roots and towards safer adult alternative music.

I had heard of "The Goo Goo Dolls" before hearing the song "Iris" during the movie "City of Angels". But the lead singer was so good looking and the name of the band so silly that I couldn't believe that their music would actually be worth a listen. Can you believe what a music snob I was ? But "iris" blew me away . . . and then so did the rest of their album. And I swear to never doubt the talent of a good-looking singer again.
