I've had the privilege of seeing a sneak peek of David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE (yes, all caps.) I'm still sorting out what I think about the movie. The fact that I need to points that this is definitely a Lynch movie, in all fashions.

I've heard comparisons between Mulholland and INLAND but feel that doing so will set the audiences expectations at the same level. INLAND EMPIRE is an entirely different experience. In retrospect, Mulholland looks like Disneyland to me with it's bright colors and sunshiney Naomi. INLAND is every color of gray you can imagine. It's a dark film, literally. Color seems very muted and reflects the heaviness of the content. Dialogue is slow but meaningfull. Laura Dern is brilliant.

The music is incredible and I actually got the chills a few times from some scene/music combos. And I love the ending.

I'm not going to lie, three hours is a long time but if you go and sit and let it wash over you you won't be disappointed. Be warned this film makes you work for it. Most likely after viewing you will walk away and say Huh?" much like after Mulholland. And much like Mulholland, after a repeat viewing things start to click into place.

Enjoy! (via INLAND EMPIRE)

Best movie of the 2006, by far. It's the first time I've seen a Lynch film in a theater, and it was one of the best movie going experiences of my life. It was exciting just to be in this fantastic world for 3 hours (which really isn't enough). If you've liked anything Lynch has done, or just like interesting films in general, check it out. (via David Lynch himself!)

Never have I been more challenged, perplexed, frustrated, enthralled and breath taken in one span of three hours. Inland Empire was that three hours. And without cows, there would be no cheese in the Inland Empire.

We are big fans of David Lynch and are eagerly waiting for his new film. In 'Inland Empire', married actress Nikki (Laura Dern) is offered a role in a motion picture which is to be directed by Kingsley (Jeremy Irons), Nikki's co-star is called Devon (Justin Theroux). Nikki's role is Sue, Devon's is Billy, but they end up winding into bed with each other. They're calling each other the names of their characters in the movie. From here on, it is impossible to tell if Nikki is actually Nikki or Sue...

Laura Dern is a fabulous actress and I can't imagine what incredible performance David Lynch will extract from her, but it should be sensational. David Lynch's latest should be a nightmare to remember, hopefully similar to 'Mulholland Drive.'
