64 Crayon box w/Sharpener
A recommendation by jooxi

Kids love to color. Get them this box and marvel at the abstract art they'll produce. Built in sharpener too!
If you have a few unwanted colors (the ones that look like vomit usually) you can make candles out of them! Great for a rainy afternoon. Just melt the crayon, sans peel, in an aluminum tin filled with boiling water.
Have fun!

Based on the dizzying array of Crayola crayon offerings (Glitter? Multicultural? Washable?) it seems safe to assume that crayons are still cool enough to win some of the time of children weaned on Wii. Heartening.
The best thing to do with crayons was to shave them onto waxed paper and iron them together to make "stained glass windows." And ruin your mother's ironing board. Good times.

I must have about 6 boxes of the 64-count crayolas laying about the house... strangely untouched... I was kind of a frugal kid and I didn't want to waste any one color on some inconsequnetial picture of a house...
