The Haj, by Leon Uris, chronicles the plight of a Palestian family caught up in the 1948 war to establish the state of Israel. Although it is very pro Israel, it gives great incite into those times and the present. There's a great deal of compassion for Haj Ibrahim and his family, as they struggle to survive, as refugees. This story reveals a great deal about the trouble and history of the Middle East.
