Stockmar Beeswax Crayons

First recommended by

Description

Regular crayons have lots of chemicals and toxins in them, Beeswax crayons are safe.

This set of beeswax crayons is great for kids! Many other styles/sets are available on the website.

Facts from Hazelnut Kids:

The Stockmar beeswax block crayons are ideal for smaller children, as they fit a child's hand particularly well. Older artists enjoy using the blocks, too, as they can easily apply color to a large surface, or use the edge of the block to paint fine lines.

The Stockmar beeswax stick crayons are slightly larger than traditional crayons. The larger size helps young children to learn how to color with stick crayons, as well as aiding the artist to move the crayon freely.

The best of both worlds! This set of 8 block crayons and 8 stick crayons is housed in an attractive sturdy tin.

Ok, my review of these is....meh.

They are ok. I hope they aren't as toxic as Crayola. From what I've started to learn, they aren't all the hype. I'm hoping they don't have petroleum products in them, in addition to copious amounts of beeswax, of course. They are made in Germany, which is becoming the benchmark for safe toys. However, I wonder (because I'm a skeptic) about Germany and how many people are skirting regulations these days....hmmm.

The colors aren't any better than a crayola. They break at about the same frequency as Crayola. Unless you can find a school or natural supply store in your area, you'll have to ship them, and they are expensive.

What is sort of worth it though, is the blocks. My daughter loves them, and they allow a different take on the crayon. They look very 'cool', in that 'I have European toys and I'm in the know' kind of way. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Kid review: My daughter loves them, especially the coloring blocks, my son is unimpressed. He wants markers. From Target. I'm looking for something that will please us both.

Update: Grandmother loves the colors. Perhaps its just me then...I know, not a particularly convincing review. One way to reduce shipping is to look up Waldorf, and look for a school in your area. They often have a store, and carry several brands of beeswax crayons.
