OK, so we all know that aloe vera is great for sun-burned skin. Perhaps you know that Cleopatra applied aloe vera gel to her face every day to preserve her beauty. But did you know that aloe vera also has amazing healing properties when taken internally? In Japan aloe juice is very popular to drink (they usually mix it with grape juice), but not so many people here in the US realize how beneficial it can be.
What's so great about aloe vera? Aloe vera juice provides valuable polysaccharides that provide healing and anti-iflammatory properties, amino acids, folic acid, niacin, and many other vitamins. Aloe vera juice helps maintain regularity, is good for the intestinal tract, promotes healthy gums and lips (you can swish and gargle before you swallow), helps support normal muscle, joint and tissue functions, and can be applied topically for minor scrapes and irritations.
So how does it taste? Well, it's quite flavorless, just a tad tart, and this juice, which is the fillet, or inner leaf, has a very slimy, chunky gel-like consistency that's kinda cool. It's best when mixed with a juice like grape or cranberry, where it just adds a slight tartness to the existing flavor. An ancient secret to staying young and healthy, both on the inside and outside.
