Sleepwalk and Other Stories by Adrian Tomine
I only just bought this yesterday, but I know I will be reading this slim volume for years to come. Adrian Tomine is an amazing storyteller, utilising both his artwork in creating pictorial characters and settings, and his perfect use of dialogue, and knowing when silence is the best means of expression. The short segments in this book are delicate and poignant in relaying moments that happen every day. The regret, fear, anxiety, awkwardness, hope, heartache... it's all so well-told and well-shown. The scenes in these tales are actually *felt* as opposed to merely being understood, because you've found yourself in a situation similar to what you're reading, or you know someone who has. I strongly recommend this for anyone curious about comics and graphic novels outside of the superhero and horror genres.
