"You know, Mr. Bernstein, if I hadn't been very rich, I might have been a really great man."
"Don't you think you are?"
"I think I did pretty well under the circumstances."
"What would you like to have been?"
"Everything you hate. "

"Are we going to declare war on Spain, or are we not?"
"The Inquirer already has."
"You long-faced, overdressed anarchist."
"I am not overdressed."
"You are too. Mr. Bernstein, look at his necktie."

"You're too old to be calling me Mr. Thatcher, Charles."

A cinematic masterpiece chronicling the life and times of newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane (based loosely on the real life William Randolph Hearst) played superbly by Orson Welles who also directed, produced, and helped to write the film. The story is told originatively through several different viewpoints as the various people who knew Kane recollect their memories of him. Stunning usage of lighting and makeup are excellent as is the innovative cinematography and direction

An absolute must see!!

Kane is taken from his mother and made the ward of a rich industrialist. Considered a movie masterpiece.

I'll be honest, this is far from my favorite movie. However, it is widely viewed as one of, if not the, best of all times. So, it is certainly something that you should have watched by now. If you haven't, do that immediately. The next time someone references "redbud" or "xanadu," you'll know what they're talking about.

The writer Herman Mankiewicz had a favorite motto about screenwriting: "Get to the boobies." (à propos of nothing, but what more can you say about this classic film?)
