Everything’s in season in the summer, and buying from local farmers at a farmers market, shop/stand or CSAs (community supported agriculture, a kind of subscription to the farm with weekly deliveries, (see JustFood.org)) is one of the healthiest choices you can make.
Local produce is super-fresh and vitamin rich, some of the tastiest fruits, veggies and dairy products you’ll ever eat! You are benefiting the commons, too, as you are helping keep your own bioregion green and minimizing the impacts of shipping food, as well as keeping those small farms growing strong. Ask about organic, free range and other growing practices, and think about our connection to that which nourishes us as you slurp that juicy peach.
