Though I probably don't really need to say more, I find it makes it extremely easy to follow trends in my field and to see who my colleagues really are and what they are doing, saying and wearing.

This is certainly a paradigm shifting machine that identified user needs that the users did not know they have. i.e. pausing and rewinding live TV.

Allows you to cut out commercials and watch your shows when you want. It’s quite liberating for a TV junkie who’s trying to cut down.

Oh my sweet lord, how DID I live without it? Seriously. I haven’t missed an episode of Top Chef OR the Sopranos this year and that alone is worth the expense.

How else would a girl get her beauty sleep and catch the Tour de France? Watch what you want when you want. Honestly, dvr has changed my life. Now, instead of watching crap when I have the time to sit down and check out some tube, I can actually catch what I want. How can a girl argue with that?

I was an early convert to TiVo. You can record one program while watching another. It automatically records your favorite programs simply by hitting the season pass option. You can also pause live TV (which is particularly useful if you’re a sports fan). And, you’ll never bicker again over what to watch or when to watch something with your loved ones.Remote Pleasure? Research shows that families that participate in fun and educational activities together are happier and healthier.* So, choose your programming carefully; and be sure to spend the bulk of your family time doing something physically active.

Never miss a show you like while you watch another, rewind if you miss something, fast forward through commercials, program an upcoming show that you won’t be around or awake for (in case you are w/ your Simmons Back Care 200). It makes tv watching dangerously easy. Come to think of it—this led to that 5 extra lbs. I hate this product.

TiVo has revolutionized TV watching. Forget about skipping commercials and never missing a show. Of course you can do that with TiVo. The best benefit is that you don't watch more TV with TiVo (common misconception of non-TiVo TV watchers) you watch better TV. No more will you channel surf to find a show to watch during your few free hours left for watching. Now you can watch what you want, when you want. Other DVRs don't stand up to TiVo. TiVo has the best software of any out there. There is no substitute!

I absolutely could not LIVE without my TIVO. I've had one 2 years, and can't watch tv the old-fashioned way anymore.

Words cannot explain how much I love TiVo.

Imagine looking for books on amazon.com without using search. Television without TiVo is like that. You could do it, but why? A show you like is coming on in five minutes but you're not ready to watch. You scramble to get to the tv in time. Why? Just get TiVo and watch when you want. You decide, not them. Never watch another commercial (unless you want to).

DVR is about the software, and TiVo's is the best. If you have a cable co's DVR you do not know what you are missing. Get a Tivo. Now.

Who can live without Tivo? Not only can I track my obscure Discovery shows as they shift around the clock, I can pause when planes go overhead (I live in a flight path).

It's Tivo, so duh! Everyone loves Tivo and if you don't have one you are crazy. Far superior to just the standard DVR, particularly when you have one from your cable/satelitte company.

I used to worry about doing things in the evenings--going to visit friends, grocery shopping, getting a drink after work--because I had to keep my tv schedule in mind. With Tivo, I have the freedom to do whatever strikes my fancy at a moment's notice, knowing my favorite shows will be there when I get home. Plus, I no longer have to watch crap just because there's nothing on.

I can't imagine owning a TV without TiVo. Pausing live TV - wonderful. Being able to catch shows whenever - amazing. Fast forwarding though stuff (and not just the commercials) - fastastic.

It IS TV your way. I never watched a lot of TV until I got Tivo. Now I only watch a few shows, but I watch them all! You won't miss an episode. Plus you can watch it whenever you want!

This is one of the few gadgets that I've ever told people "will change your life." Come to think of it, it's probably the only one I described that way. This is so integrated into my life that I actually get confused when I want to rewind something on the radio, and (obviously) can't.

TiVo is great. Skip commercials, let TiVo tell you when movies with your favorite actors are on, and never miss your favorite shows! Tivo lets you watch TV on your schedule. Don't stay home just because you need to watch the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy/House/Insert TV Show Here. Let TiVo record it for you and you can watch it whenever you want.

revolutionized my life! i am no longer tied to the specific programming slot. i can watch my favorite programs at my leisure. and skipping through commercials is a complete joy, but i must admit that sometimes i stop for the ones that catch my eye. also, the DVR that comes with many digital cable services these days is by no means a comparison. tivo IS better and you won't go back once you've tried it!

Let's just say after owning it for only a few months, I hate watching live (or non-tivo-ed) TV...
-
trevorburnham's recommendation
What's left to be said? It costs about $10/month (on a long-term plan) and I'd happily pay $50. Even if you only have a couple of shows that you watch regularly (I'm a fan of Jeopardy!, Heroes and Iron Chef America), being able to watch those shows whenever you want, and rapidly fast-forward through the commercials, is a remarkable time-saver.
-

you can be a busy person and STILL watch all of the great shows! it's an automatic vcr- without all the tapes! plus it has cool features that lets you rent or buy movies, check the weather, and schedule shows online!

Tivo is to DVR what Coke is to soda pop and Kleenex is to facial tissue. Tivo it, it's a verb too. The reason is because they were the first to arrive at the scene and because the Tivo interface is superior to all other DVRs. It's worth the extra money.

Its just a plain great piece of information technology. Will revolutionize your TV viewing. You will watch more TV of choice (could be quality or just better enterainment) and you will spend less time doing it. I have tried DVR's from other companies and my cable company and they just do not compare, not even close.
-

When Tivo first came onto the scene I rolled my eyes. "Who would pay for that when we have VCRs?!" Boy, I was more wrong about that than I have been about anything. Worth every penny.
