I always try to keep lemons around the house for baking, cooking, fresh squeezed lemonade or fresh juice in my tea. (via Fresh Direct)

Lemons are handsdown the best secret in the kitchen. Helps you clean up (grind spent lemons in your garbage disposal to clean, or put in a bowl of water to steam clean your microwave), make dressing, add zest to veggies before cooking, squeeze a bit in chicken dishes to add depth of flavor and brightness. Add to broccoli. Great for gluten/yeast free diets to add back flavor.

My grandmother would make a concoction she called "lemon stew" for me when I had a cold or flu bug. I just call it "hot lemonade". It's very simple and tasty. If the sickest person will drink this. Take the juice of one fresh lemon, hot water and sweeten to taste. DO NOT ADD ALCOHOL. This will only dehydrate you and is counterproductive to the body's natural attempts to heal itself. Drink this directly before retiring and cover up tight. The warmth will help lull you to sleep and you will sweat out impurities overnight. Repeat every night until your symptoms diminish. (Adding honey is good for a sore throat.)
