Dedicated to finding new uses and applications for bamboo, partners Smith & Fong created Plyboo in 1989. The name refers to a base-laminated bamboo material from which the company manufactures flooring, paneling and plywood. Neapolitan is one such plywood with interesting contrasting colors; it comes in two finishes, natural (shown) and a tea-stained amber. Bamboo is one of the more sustainable, Earth-friendly building products: Because it’s a grass, it does not need to be replanted after harvesting, and certain species can grow to a height of 40 feet within a few years.
