I have always thought of the Queen Mother as the model grandmother, smiling benevolently down upon her home country from underneath the brim of a fabulous hat. Yet, as I will have to wait until October 27, 2009 to fully understand, no mere figurehead is she. Indeed, long before I was born, she witnessed firsthand the horrors of WW II and sought to aid its survivors. This warm-hearted woman who bore the current Queen of England holds so much history with such great dignity.
