Pomegranates are one of the "Seven Species," fruits of the Earth indigenous to the middle east. They are mentioned in the Torah throughout and have become to be Judaica symbols of integrity, equity, and justice. The red fruit ripens for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, when we are supposed to be contemplating what we can do better for next year.
