i'm going to describe hot chip (a quasi-famous band with hipster cred) by comparing them to michel gondry (a quasi-famous director with hipster cred). really, this works out pretty well:

they're both charmingly dorky, creative as all hell, and utterly incapable of editing themselves.

michel gondry started with a fabulous collection of music videos, parlayed that into a promising directorial career (improving from human nature to eternal sunshine...), before taking a step backward with the cute-but-infuriating science of sleep. hot chip started with coming on strong, a slightly scattered album that hinted at greatness, improved vastly with the warning, the sound of a band finally finding their voice... and now comes made in the dark. what a letdown. it's dick cheney-level scattershot, with too many ideas and experiments crammed into every song--some of them don't even sound like songs, just dicking around in the studio. also, where the hell did 'my piano' go? that was outstanding.

in all fairness, this isn't a terrible album--i still like it well enough. it's just disappointing, considering where they could have gone.

I first listen their music from myspace. Definitely a really nice and different sound loved the electronic adds... It really cools you down while listening

This is my favorite driving album of 2008.
Strong beats, good vocals, and charming lyrics make this a pleasurable listen.
