Warm up to the idea of a vest this winter. Perfect for jumping in and out of the car, or running errands, it’s the perfect item for pulling off this season’s layering trend, or for wearing your new, bell-sleeved sweater without crushing the bell. Trying to stuff a billowing sleeve into a tight coat is extremely unpleasant, and always has me contemplating warmer climates.

This vest from J.Crew has the added bonus of fleece-lined pockets ($118), and if you’re an authentic outdoorsman (or play one on tv), try Patagonia’s version ($145). I picked one of these up in a deep sapphire blue at a J. Crew outlet for $60. I'd been wary of the puffy-outerwear trend over the past few years, but I have to admit that one filled with goosedown will keep you super warm. So there's functionality for you! It's been fantastically useful this Fall.
