Rare Pair of Empire or Biedermeier Cabinets in Mahogany with Original Glass Mirrors, Northern Europe, c. 1825
30.25" wide; 19.5" deep; 103" high; Mirror: 27.5" wide; 67.75" high. A fine pair of cabinets whose accompanying mirrors may hang separately without necessarily resting on the surface. Of fine Cuban mahogany, figured and book-matched throughout, the cabinets feature a convex drawer, bowed cabinet door flanked by pillars, all resting on plinth base. Original mirrors feature two panels of glass that are flanked by pilasters capped with carved Corinthian capitals. Carved decorative details include phoenixes, palmettes & fleur-de-lis. May be used at either side of a fireplace or as nightstands, or anywhere where symmetry commands the use of a pair.
