I didn't get this movie the first (or second) time I watched it. Somehow, though, I must have known deep down that there was something there, because I watched it again when it showed up on cable and I finally started to get it.

Now, I've seen Local Hero probably a dozen times and expect to continue enjoying it, especially in my old age.

Put aside any expectations, relax, and prepare to be bored out of your mind by Local Hero the first 2 times. Eventually though, perhaps you too will be laughing out loud and wiping away tears as you escape into MacIntyre's world.

I was charged with finding things that are delightful and this movie immediately came to mind. It's smart, dark, whimiscal and hysertical! Everyone is at the top of their game in this tale of an American businessman's trip to a Scottish village.
