I have these and my beta survives fine. You MUST use filtered water and it must remain at room temperature. Beta's are an Asian fish and are found in warm puddles - which is why they thrive in small space environments.
I change my beta's water once every 3 months - and it STAYS crystal clear even then. You should NOT over-feed your beta (3-4 pellets per day is enough) and mine can easily survive over an extended weekend with no food.
My beta lives in one of the glass sections - in the other glass section I placed white sand, some small palmtrees, a shell, and a starfish.
I get tons of compliments on it it as it is an office decoration at work!
I'm thinking about making these for my co-workers for Christmas.

SwsMiss' you really need to do your research and educate yourself on the nitrogen cycle. Ammonia builds up in a bowl that small within days, not months. Go buy an ammonia test kit and see for your self. Your fish has a built in cute face but is living a horrible life in pain, please change the water every 2 days and visit aquamaniacs dot net for accurate information on how to properly care for a Betta splendans.
Aside from that, they do not live in small puddles, they live in vast sheet flows and rice paddies which often have very low oxygen content, which is why they developed a labyrinth organ for breathing and do not require supplemental aeration in the tank. Think about it, they are called fighting fish, they are not communal in nature and will kill each other on sight, how on earth would it be possible for the species to thrive if they lived together in small puddles?? Again, research the species and the nitrogen cycle and you will see that you are completely wrong in your aquarium husbandry methodology. Maybe I should start an online class... fish for dummies.

These are really cute, but if you buy them, keep in mind that these are very small bowls for bettas, and no other fish (including goldfish) would survive in them.
Bettas CAN survive in small spaces like this, but they won't thrive, their lives will likely be fairly short, and they will be prone to disease. Just to keep your fish alive you'll need to do a full water change for each "bowl" a couple times a week at a minimum (a wise betta owner would change water every other day in containers this size).
In short, if you're not up to 16-20 water changes a month, look past the "cuteness factor" and pass on these as homes for your fish.

What a tease this is. I want to purchase this or something much like it but nowhere I've looked has any thing available. I had one that my husband broke and we've been looking for a replacement w absolutely no luck at all. I am so upset! I was using it as a home for my sons' fish. It was perfect for their room. It was perfect period anyway I chose to use it. I am so upset about this.
