If you want to create your own horseshoes or swords, a good place to start is this swordmaking/blacksmithing instructional DVD. You can rent this from Smartflix for $10 (currently discounted to $8).
Smartflix is an interesting concept - they want to be the Netflix of instructional, how-to DVDs. They have a good selection covering many categories - including woodworking, boating, cooking and musical instruction. (via Kevin Kelly (cool tools))
