I have a huge collection of old Betamax movies collecting dust from way back in the 80s and it's time I upconverted them to high definition in a media format that I know I will be able to use and trust throughout the 21st century! With the cool new Betamax to HD-DVD Converter ($30), I can simply pop in an old analog Betamax tape, hit the one-touch record function and before I know it a perfect HD-DVD archival copy that I can finally watch over and over again. Losers of the format wars unite! Literally. In the early to mid 80's, the video format wars crushed Betamax. Despite its superior video quality, you could just cram more "Howard the Duck" or "Enemy Mine" on a VHS.

Fast forward a few more years, but not far enough where you get to the hovercars, you find that BluRay has done the same thing to HD/DVD. I'm not one of the HD/DVD v BluRay fanboys, but the word is out, HD/DVD is done, it lost and they're no longer being made.

Now with this Beta to HD/DVD converter, you can finally transfer one loser format to another. It's simultaneoulsy sad and amazingly cool. It's retro-meets-modern tech. I absolutely love it. (via ThinkGeek)
