The further you are from Ireland, the worse it tastes...and yet it's still the best beer in California. Not even a beer so much as a liquid meal. It's good for you.

In university, I watched in awe as people sipped this dark, thick brew out of pint glasses. In England, I watched a tiny, 85-year-old Irish women sip it out of room temperature bottles - something she'd been doing since she was a teenager. Now I'm no longer an observer. It's got to be poured perfectly, and it's got to be cold.

"Guinness is good!" So goes Guinness' slogan. In fact, Guinness is great! I had my first Guinness at the brewery in Dublin. I held out to have my first one in Ireland. It was worth the wait. If you love stout, you'll love Guinness.

I like Guinness on tap or in the can but not in the bottle. It is the only canned beer that passes through my lips. I still don't know why the bottle has the Guinness name on it. It doesn't match the high quality of Guinness. (via joe)

If you can't get it from a keg in Dublin, I recommend the black can with the magical fizzy plastic ball inside. Don't eat the plastic ball. But do enjoy the best beer on Earth. (via mikeschulte)
