This is just a gorgeous album. The songs are lovely and sing-songy and conjure images of wandering through European streets...or maybe that's just me...

Though I do not own the record, Beirut takes up an absurd amount of my Ipod memory. This piece in particular, the Gulag Orkester, is probably one of the most mind blowing records out there. It doesn't really matter if you're into this type of thing or not, you'll love it. The horn section is killer.

To be honest, I had almost forgotten about Beirut. I'm not really sure how because this was one of my favorite albums of '06 and he is completely amazing.

Indie folk, pop lovers will all appreciate this one.

This debut album by Beirut is pretty amazing. The band blends indie folk and eastern european gypsy sounds. If you like DeVotchKa you'll love this album. (via Amazon)

There is something about these well crafted songs that does transport you to some gypsy version of the past. If you want to escape the world with some great folk-type songs, this is a great album.
