the gift of fear: survival signals that protect us from violence

Description

This book was recommended to me by several people in my neighborhood after a forum discussion regarding increased crime in our neighborhood. Here are some of their recommendations:

[from Arthur] Gavin De Becker's book is an excellent bit of reading for fine tuning one's instincts and responses regarding the personal threat of crime. His thesis is that we are at considerable risk if we allow rationalization to over-ride our gut instinct regarding danger. But he also points out that these gut signals will not be readily apparent to us if the competing against background noise of constantly being in fear.

[from Carol] I want to echo that "The Gift of Fear" is an EXCELLENT book. It's a fast read and tremendous insights. Since reading it about 6 or 7 years ago, I have often relied on its messages about trusting your instincts. If you do read this book, I promise you it will be a topic of discussion within your household!
