This is an excellent book on our impact on the world around us. It's a fast read and once you're done, you see things in a whole new light.
If you're giving this for Christmas, maybe give it with a Chico reusable bag as well. They'll understand once they've finished it.

I have wanted to read this book for quite some time, so popped down to the local bookstore (yaaaaaaay local small business!) and bought it today. Because I don't have enough to do, thesis? What thesis?
Anyways, I've often wondered what the world would be like if we all just vanished. I spend alot of time in the wilderness, but true, untouched wilderness is getting harder and harder to find. This book illustrates how nature would rebound if we, for some reason, cease to exist. The big revelation is, as one Amazon.com reviewer aptly wrote: The best of what we've done wouldn't survive while most of the worst of our work will. A sobering thought. Ancient societies left wonderous ruins, our society will leave metal, toxic chemicals, and plastic. Hmmmm. Maybe we should do something about it....
