A "rainmaker" is someone who brings in the business by finding new clients and securing a relationship with them. In the practice of law, this can be a high-brow affair, involving corporate clients with deals to close, cases to settle and policies to establish. Or it can be what is not-so-politely referred to as "ambulance chasing," going for the client who has been wrongfully killed or injured. This movie initially involves the latter but becomes the former when Rudy Baylor (Matt Damon) stumbles upon a client with a seemingly rock solid case against an insurance company. A gripping drama, no matter whose side you decide to take.
