No, this is NOT the official vehicle of the crappy hair rock band only known for an acoustic cover song. This is the world's first performance electric car. How does 0-60 MPH in 4 seconds sound? A top speed of 135 MPH? Or the equivalent to 135 miles per gallon? Priced starting at $92,000, Tesla sold their entire allotment of 2007 vehicles before they were all produced. If you want one, get in line.

This sports car goes 0-60 in 4 seconds and is ELECTRIC. It also gets 200 miles per charge. It's sold out into 2008 and I would wait in line for one.

How could I leave this one out? The Tesla is only the sexiest car this side of ol' Doc Brown's Delorean and it's green to boot. You'll be able to bust a quickstart off the line and do it knowing that you're not burning any gas to do it. If you combine the Tesla with some roof top solar panels (or even wind credits), you can go to sleep knowing your obsession with small fast cars that make you look cool is ecologically kosher.

...beacause a girl needs a set of wheels. Okay, so I can't actually drive yet. And yes, the total cost of this car is in the 6 figures. But that's why you marry rich, so your life partner won't blink twice about buying you one of the most innovative electric cars on the planet when you ask them. Or you know, you could always go get a job and earn the money, but that's just gauche, and requires actual hard work. Weddings planners can put things together for you so much easier, and divorce lawyers can it it apart just as quickly.

This is exactly the kind of innovation the world needs - an efficient, gorgeous, crazy-fast (0-60 in 4 seconds!!!) electric car. Kudos to Tesla, who have seen success with their $98,000 superlight hypercar. R&D has never looked so sexy, and neither has protecting the environment!

The one car that would make me give up my Boxster. Finally an aesthetically pleasing electric car with great performance! Note to auto manufacturers: you'ld sell even more hybrids or electrics if you'ld make these cars look more attractive. Tesla just announced a sedan coming out in 2010 for 60k. Let's hope they can meet those expectations.
