When I first moved to Los Angeles it was late in January, just at the beginning of a long, damp rainiy season. For some reason I had this CD in my car and I proceeded to listen to it for two long months of rain, gloomy skies, blowing palm trees, and trying to adjust to a new city. Californication is an amazing album which to me perfectly captures the essence of California and Los Angeles in all it's madness and beauty.

Amazingly catchy album from the funkiest white boys around. John Frusciante is back in the mix, Dave Navaro's out, and Rick Rubern's back at the helm. All of these are good things if you like classic Chili Peppers sound. It's an infectious record, with two fairly big hits off of it, "Scar Tissue" (also the title of Anthony Keidis' autobiography) and "Californication".
