Shelving that'll transform your books into a piece of art!
Product description:
The inspiration for Opus Shelving (2000) came to designer Sean Yoo during a trip to Pompeii. While walking through the streets of the archaeological site, the designer was struck by a Roman wall-building technique known as “opus incertum,” which is characterized by a distinctively erratic combination of blocks. Yoo went on to observe this layout of elements elsewhere, from dried-up lake beds in the deserts of Las Vegas to the sidewalks of Los Angeles. He took this familiar pattern and adapted it into shelving that’s made from 100% recyclable expanded polypropylene – the same material chosen for motorcycle helmets due to its light weight and durability. Opus units can be stacked (strong double-sided tape is included) or set side by side, used against a wall or as a room divider. Opus was chosen by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Design Museum of Milan to be included in the I.DoT 2006–2007, a juried exhibition that selects, certifies and promotes the best of contemporary Italian design for a traveling exhibition. Made in Italy.

Inspired by dried up lake beds - there is nothing like these topsy turvy bookshelves to brings some interest to normally dull, bland, book shelves

This is fantastic though I have a different association. It reminds me of honeycomb.
