This is by far one of the best releases of 2006. Producer/Emcee J Dilla (aka Jay Dee) was an original member of the Detroit group Slum Village and was responsible for the legendary sound behind groups like the Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest. The album features Common, D'Angelo, Busta Rhymes, Pharoahe Monch, Madlib, and others and possesses some of the most emotional, profoundly creative instrumentation. Tragically, shortly after the release of "The Shining", J DIlla died of complications with lupus and other disorders which he had been battling for years.
