I always prefer the sleek and chic look of stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, so the Cuisinart ICE 50BC Supreme is my choice of the "reasonably" priced ice cream makers. Slate's Stephen Metcalf says "the ICE 50BC did make a very nice ice cream, and in well under 40 minutes. A brushed stainless-steel box with no frilly-silly add-ons, the machine is also beautifully designed."

This actually has its own compressor built-in. So fresh ice cream is perhaps too simple with this machine.

Who doesn't love ice cream? What makes this ice cream maker better than the cheaper models? It has a built-in compressor, so you don't have to freeze the bowl 24 hours in advance, but can churn out ice cream on the spot in several bathes.
