A great idea for the photographer who doesn't want to drag a giant tripod wherever they go. Very unique!

The Gorillapod is a small, flexible tripod for your camera. Each leg can bend and hold its position independently of another. This means you can use the Gorillapod as a regular mini tripod, but you can also wrap its legs around a post, tree, railing, or any similar thing nearby.
I fell in love with the concept of the Gorillapod when I saw it online. Shortly thereafter, I saw it in person at the camera store. They had two different sizes sitting out on the counter. I picked one up and couldn't put it down. The legs are rubber, sturdy and bend easily, but hold their position properly. (They're fun to play with, too!) The top of the tripod has a removeable attachment that screws into the bottom of your camera, allowing you to clip it in and out of the Gorillapod without having to fiddle with a screw every single time. The clip also makes sure the camera doesn't accidentally fall out.
I have a compact digital camera. The appropriate Gorillapod is quite small and light. I was briefly concerned that the Gorillapod would slip or slide once it was attached to something with my camera on top, but tests at home were effective in showing that as long as I wrapped it around something tightly, the camera would not fall.
Joby makes the Gorillapod in three different sizes. Make sure you choose the one appropriate to your camera!
All in all, I love the Gorillapod. I'm finding a variety of uses for it, both in my macro photography and when I want to take pictures that include myself and others. It was definitely worth the buy.

Joby's Gorillapod's are really amazing tripods that you can use pretty much anywhere. They might look like aliens, but the segmented legs can grip onto anything, allowing you to take rock-steady shots wherever you are. Plus they have three models now; one for small digital cameras, one for SLRs, and a big one for SLRs with zoom lenses attached. Great pictures with no monkey business. (via Gizmodo)

This little tripod looks like it's about to come alive and eat something, but it's actually one of the best gadgets around. Not only can you adjust the nubbly legs just like a regular tripod, but you can also wrap them around a chair, a pole, or anything else you want to attach your camera to.

A different sort of tripod. Makes it possible to attacha a camera to "just about anything- anywhere and everywhere". It looks like they've also also just released a PRO-version for SLRs/heavier cameras that supports up to 3 kilos. Not a moment to late given the success of the original version!
Don't miss the product-animation (and the gallery) on the manufacturer's website - a perfect example of how to display products online.

I'm not the kind of guy who carries a tripod around wherever I go, but there are times when I wish I had one. I end up resting my camera on a table, or bracing it up against a wall or pole. No longer. The Gorillapod is a compact, flexible, and sturdy beast which allows for stability and angles not possible before.
Also availble in larger sizes for SLR cameras and SLR cameras with zoom lenses.

I'm always finding myself in odd positions in odd places when taking pictures. I love that this tripd wraps around everything. But, like Notcot said - only for smaller cameras. (via notcot)
