This Kurosawa classic is worth owning. A poor rice farming village is attacked by bandits who promise to return for the harvest. Some of the villagers decide to find samurai to defend against the bandits. I feel like I can't describe this movie well enough to convince someone else to watch or buy it - I'm just totting out superlatives - so go watch it and that will convince you infinitely better than I could.

I saw the super long version of this, in a cramped theater on a crappy DVD projector. It is long, foreign, and black & white, and it was one of the best movie-going experiences of my life. (via John_and_Rose)

What's there not to love about Akira Kurosawa's movies? This story of honor and duty was an influencer in shaping my core values... That says something about how impactful a great movie can be.

Kurosawa's masterpiece that creates an action packed formula for all cinematic adventures.
One of the most exciting and moving films ever made. From the selection of each skilled warrior to the duplicitious villagers, it is always riveting. Some of the best battle scenes ever filmed.
