Perfectly violent and entirely captivating. If you've never seen the indie darling that ruined Troy Duffy's career. I think it's about time you hop on it.

This movie and I were meant to be. I'm a bit of a film snob, so I tend to be skeptical about movies I've never heard about. But I was startled by how fantastic Boondock Saints is! Then I discovered that it was partly filmed in Toronto - Henry's Camera and the Lakeview Diner for starters. Just a few months ago I met the film's script supervisor who has become a dear friend of mine. Yup, it's unavoidable. I'm glad I liked it so much to start with! It's a cult movie though, imperfect and hardly "classic American cinema" quality, but like the best cult movies there's that special something about it that keeps you coming back again and again.
It's a violent, stylish, modern-day Robin Hood tale that could have been vacuous if it wasn't for Connor and Murphy MacManus, the two Irish brothers at its centre. Played by Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery, who share the screen with a scene-stealing Willem Defoe as a gay FBI agent and Billy Connelly as a mysterious and dangerous assassin and the twin's buddy David Ferry who provides the comic relief. If it wasn't yet a cult movie, the inclusion of Ron Jeremy would clinch it - he sent my married 30 year old script supervisor friend off-set during his masturbation scene because he didn't want to corrupt any innocents. Oh, the irony!

really awesome movie. Watch the subsequent documentary, Overnight. You'll never think of this movie in the same way again (and I'm not really sure if that's a good or bad thing).
