Harry Potter fans, rejoice! Here's a new J. K. Rowling release - a collector's edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. No, Hogwarts is not involved, but I hear these books are equally terrific - and a lot prettier.

This is the book that is referred to in the final Harry Potter book. It's a cool collector's addition.

I can't decide if I should save my pennies or put it at the top of my Christmas list... or just wait and see if my puts it on his Christmas list (he's bound to, honestly), but it would be cool to get ourselves on of these, and the cash all goes to charity for kids, so that's ultimately very cool...

In December 2007, J.K. Rowling unveiled The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a very special book of five fairy tales illustrated by the bard herself, embellished with silver ornaments and mounted moonstones. Amazon was fortunate to come into possession of one of the original copies, and it was our privilege to share images and reviews of this incredible artifact. Now J.K. Rowling is giving millions of Harry Potter fans worldwide cause for celebration with a new edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard (available December 4, 2008) and Amazon is thrilled to exclusively offer a luxuriously packaged Collector’s Edition designed to evoke the spirit of the handcrafted original.

So you think you like Harry Potter? How would you like a set of 5 fairy tales, complete with annotations by Dumbledore himself? Set in a case, which hen opened, reveals a lovely little book, nestled in a velvet bag. The book is "complete with metal skull, corners, and clasp; replica gemstones; and emerald ribbon." Apparently J.K. Rowling had gifted a few of the originals (with silver ornaments and a moonstone) and Amazon.com was in posession of one of them. It looks gorgeous and drool-worthy. If you're having a hard time justifying the extra cash, remember that Net proceeds from this Collector's Edition and the Standard Edition support of the Children's High Level Group, a charity co-founded in 2005 by J K Rowling and Emma Nicholson MEP to make life better for vulnerable children. (The Children's High Level Group is a charity registered in England and Wales under registered charity number 1112575.)

If you're a huge Harry Potter fan like I am (and I mean HUGE... like I went to midnight releases and dressed up in costume. And you better believe it wasn't any store-bought costume, it was handmade and marvelous.) you need this. Sure, it's $100 but it looks like it is waaay beyond worth it. But if you're feeling stingy, you can get the standard edition for less than a tenth of the price. It's up to you... but I can guarantee that this one will look a lot cooler on your bookshelf...
