What you can't see from the picture is how the shaft is made of a long tongue that is a separate piece from the back and wraps around it. The lot is held together by the buckles. Between that and the pleats/folds sewn into the toe, these are some of the most structurally interesting interesting boots I've encountered. Also, they're so masculine that they just beg to be worn with girly frippery.
