I got this camera in August as a birthday gift to myself and I LOVE it. I just wish I had more time to learn how to use all of the manual features. What I can tell you is that in the time I have had to experiment I've gotten some stellar pics of my daughter who is currently impossible to photograph because she doesn't stop moving.
I did a ton of research on this camera trying to find the difference between it and the Panasonic and in the end, it was a manager at Bel Aire Camera in Westwood who told me that the biggest difference is that the lense on the Leica is made in Germany where ALL Leica camera lenses are made while the lense on the Panasonic is made in Japan.

I have replaced my Leica Digi for this D-Lux. It is by far smaller than the Digi( due to the lens size ) but yet still creates really stunning images. And it is only 600 bucks !!! For the quality of a Leica it is really worth it.
I love it for its :
1. Size
2. Image quality
3. Build Quality
4. and being a bit of a snob ...the Leica name
Just so you guys know....
the camera itself could be compared to the Panasonic Dmc Lx2.
both share the same electronics and the same lens but the major difference is the warranty and the final product in image results. The Leica has different parameteres than the Panasonic so images tend to look different......and in my opinion better. The difference in Warranty is that Leica will replace the item( this is coming from the Samy's in LA repair guy upstairs ). And of course the difference in body( Leica is magnesium compared to the Panasonic's Aluminum ) and the price( the Leica is obviously $150 more on avg. ).

Smaller, thinner and less expensive than the M8 sister model. It's enough to give other cameras an eating disorder. (via hipcheq)

Awesome, thoughful d-lux recommendation! I was on the fence about whether to buy one and, after reading what you had to say about the camera, I'm convinced it's perfect for me. Thanks!
