This is a very special book. I only wish it were larger. It was inspired by an exhibition of the same title (Special Cases: Natural Anamolies and Historical Monsters) of which the author was curator at the Getty Research Institute in Santa Monica, California. The exhibit and this book explore the idea of of the "other" in the relationship between the mythical monster and its physiological counterpart. (via amazon.com)
