A more effective mortar and pestal, because of the way one is designed to literally fit into the other. It also has to be the most visually intriguing simple kitchen tools of this sort that I've come across, too. All around appeal.

This is a must-have piece of equipment for the serious chef. Though I tend to use mine more for making meds for the animals I rescue.

For a true piece of beauty in your kitchen, check out this Full Contact Spice Grinder by Mint ($34). The sculptural mortar & pestle makes an efficient kitchen tool. The curves of the pestle fit perfectly into the base of the mortar maximizing the usable surface area. (via Outblush)
