Disc brakes on a mountain bike is essential for rides with long descents. Disc brakes have great stopping power, don’t fade need less maintenance and move a lot of the rotational weight off the rim and into the hub (thus faster wheels). I have used various brands of disc brakes but I like the engineering of Hopes Mini Monos.
