Robertson Davies is an amazing writer who has a keen insight into how our minds actually work. The Manticore is his superb exploration of a man essentially having a psychotic break during the course of his Jungian analysis. Rich in humor, archetypes/myths, and the sort of "truths" that are not so much provable as feel-able, the Manticore totally opened my eyes to the epic inner journey we all have available to us, should we choose to walk down those dark paths of the psyche. Sort of like a more readable and more fast-paced version of many of the insights that Joseph Campbell writes about in the Hero's Journey. HIGHLY recommended both for the super-high-quality of the writing as well as enduring lessons it teaches.
