The Mind of the Market: Compassionate Apes, Competitive Humans, and Other Tales from Evolutionary Economics: Michael Shermer

Another one of Michael Shermer's brilliant books. This time he applies the forces of natural selection that drove evolution to shed some light on economics, and how the behaviors of complex social groups have influenced the marketplace.

Rather than saying "all greed is bad", Shermer shows that there's an acceptable level of greed that can actually benefit the community... and he brings in evidence from both the natural world and the financial world.

Even the concept of "the invisible hand of the market" is applicable to the forces of natural selection.

Fascinating, educational and an interesting viewpoint of how deeply ingrained our past influences our present.
