A water bottle made from CORN!! We are getting away from petroleum-based plastics, and this bottle proves it.

Finally, a drinking water bottle that makes sense on multiple levels. There are numerous environmental concerns that this bottle addresses:

1. Made from corn resin (also known as polylactic acid or PLA), unlike regular PET plastic, which is made from petroleum, this new plastic helps reduce our dependency on oil, and also helps reduce pollution produced during manufacture.

2. This bottle comes with its own carbon-based filter, unlike SIGG bottles or the like, and so it can be filled with regular tap water and you get to drink FILTERED water. Cool!

3. It can be reused up to 90 times, reducing waste, and then can be tossed guilt-free, or even recycled through special PLA recycling programs. Replacing it every so often helps eliminate the possibility of bacteria build-up in your bottle.

I just love this bottle!! Check it out!!

The corn bottles or PLA bottles to give them their technical name are great but I have several major concerns.
The resin is supplied by the Carlyle Company in America through its manufacturing facility Nature Works in Minnesota.
1. The corn starch is made using GM products and there is no data to say that this does not enter the bottled water during transportation.
2. The container may start breaking down and leaching after several uses.
3. This corn product pushes an already fragile product maize to new highs so expect to pay more for other items.
4. It is still bottle water using many road miles to transport to the point of sale.
It is only bio-degradable under industrial composting systems where moisture, temperature and airation are controlled.
Use a life bottle which can be reused time and again.

Did you read? It's resuable up to 90 times. It's not bottled water, it's an empty bottle meant to be filled with tap water. Of course prices will go up, better to pay more for safe clean domestic than dirty foreign oil. Green will cost more before it can ever costs less.

Hi Joe
Thank you for your comment but I still feel you miss the point.
PLA plastic bottles give the consumer no incentive to buy a life bottle. It is still a throw away product. Plus PLA is not bio-degradable under normal conditions. Its a plastic bottle in another wrapper.

if you need to have a lighter version of bottle, in comparison with steel, then this is one of the best alternatives. its also great for travelling or at the office, when there is no filtered water. and its a great one to send with the kids, as many schools do not carry filters, if you can get them to not lose it!
