Mercedes Sosa passed today at 74, but her music will liver forever. Forced to leave her native country of Argentina to Europe when the military government went after the activists, artists and anyone who they thought were dissidents of their government. This story happened in the 70s when thousands of young people were slaughtered and dump into lagoons and in the ocean. Poet and activist Victor Jara was also killed around this time in his native Chile. These were rough times in South America, the struggle for many is still very much alive today for many of the children and parents of those taken away 30 plus years ago.
