Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) An American photographer trained at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Robert Mapplethorpe took his first photographs using a Polaroid. In the 70's, he photographed, using a wide-angle lens, his friends artists, composers and other members of the New-York Underground. From the 80's, his photography moves towards the classical beauty and the refinement of subjects. His work concentrates on flowers' still lifes orchids, tulips and lilies, statuesque nudes and portraits.
