I once read that you should spend more money on daywear than eveningwear because it’s darker at night (clearly a nuclear-physicist developed this theory), thus you can get away with wearing cheap shoes. So, no one will call the fashion police, even if your boss is too cheap to spring for a holiday party that takes place someplace other than the company conference room.
